Sean Kikkert: VISA MASTER!

We are thrilled to announce and recognize such a superstar to the VISA crew! Here, Sean is proudly wearing the bespoke VISA HAT, representing our pirate colours of all VISA members. (The former CEO of the MIA – the odious Kevin Lane – branded VISA Members as pirates years ago—something we now wear as a badge of honour.)

Sean Kikkert has more than 19 years of experience in immigration. He commenced employment with the Department of Immigration in 2006, and he worked for the department for eleven years before opening his own law practice. Sean resigned from the Department of Immigration in 2017 as a Senior Legal Officer; however, he had also acted as Director/Principal Legal Officer on several occasions over a four-year period. After leaving the Department of Immigration, Sean ran an immigration law practice between 2017-2022, before completing the 2022-2023 South Australian Bar Readers’ Course and Reading Program. As a barrister, Sean specialises in immigration law, and he regularly provide expert CDP training on immigration related topics.

Sean has extensive court room and tribunal experience. He has appeared for both respondents (e.g. Ministers of Immigration) and applicants in 43 contested final AAT hearings (mostly s 501 character cancellation matters and citizenship matters). Sean has likewise appeared in many Federal Court and Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia hearings. As a barrister, Sean provides complex legal advice based on his 18 years of experience in administrative law. As a barrister, Sean is sought out by clients from all around Australia because of his expertise in immigration law. Sean also has considerable experience in dispute resolution and conducted family and personal violence conferences as a Deputy Registrar with the ACT Magistrates Court between 2019-2022. Sean was born in Adelaide, South Australia and spent the early part of his childhood in the Netherlands before his family returned to Australia. He earnt a BA (Hons.) in Psychology in 2002 and an LLB (with Hons.) in 2005 from the University of Adelaide. He married his wife Jaquilyn in Hong Kong, and he is the father of six children.
